The Usual Suspects ...

A guy from my class, Nathan, was always a pro in spoiling a movie. "I'll reveal the clue for you", he said, "so you don't have to see the movie yourself!". One day, he came to school, claiming "You have to see 'The Usual Suspects', the best movie ever! And ... is guilty!" (I'm not telling who it is, because you might not have seen it yourself).

I knew the movie, read about it when it came out in 1995, but I had not yet seen it at that point.

And now the good news : I couldn't believe ... indeed had done it, while I was watching the film. Bryan Singer and the brilliant scenarist have the talent to completely alter the movie and its storyline during the very last minutes. A totally overwhelming finale. And I believe The Usual Suspects is really the first movie ever to succeed in it. Can you imagine? You know what's going to happen, you know who did it ... and still you're shocked to find out it really was that suspect.

So much about the story. Like I told my friend Karel (he recommended the movie, it's his favourite ever), the movie could've been afwul if the actors weren't that outstanding. Cause they are. Take my word for it.

Benicio Del Toro (hilarious at this year's Academy Awards) is blinding, speaking with the best accent ever to be used in a motion picture. "English, please", cries a desperate federal agent.

Stephen Baldwin, Gabriel Byrne, Pete Postlethwaite and Chazz Palmenteri deliver genious lines combined with amazing talent. Magnificent actors, every single one. Kevin Spacey must have seen the light during shooting, cause he's simply the best of the lot. How is he ever going to be better than in this film?

The boxoffice-result was waaay too low and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made a terrible mistake, when they only awarded Kevin Spacey and the screenwriter. The entire cast should've ended up snatching the best actor-award, Bryan Singer was definitely the best director that year and the movie itself was also pretty good, don't you think?
